According to Reuters, French communications-equipment maker Alcatel said Sunday it would buy smaller U.S. rival Lucent Technologies Inc. for $13.4 billion to gain more market heft and broaden its product mix. I’ll be curious to see what Cramer has to say about this because he has been in and out of Lucent more times than Tommy Lee in Pamela Anderson. Does this mean the start of consolidation of other phone part manufacturers? I like the following companies to be possible takeover targets, 3Com, Ciena, Extreme Networks, , Tellabs, Redback Networks, Sonus Networks, Foundry Systems, Avaya, UTStarcom, Silicom, and Polycom. I still think Cisco is the best company of all of them but they may be a bit big to be purchased. They will be the purchaser. I think they’ll buy Motorola. It would be a perfect fit.
