Disney’s buy today of Pixar is a steal at $7.9 Billion. Pixar is today what Disney was 40 years ago. The king of animation. I really didn’t want to see Pixar sold because I didn’t want them to lose that drive and creativity that comes from a smaller company. I wanted Pixar to buy back their rights and characters and go on their own. It went quite the opposite and proves the saying, “If you can’t beat ’em, buy ’em. As a trader it didn’t provide an opportunity because the finish price of 2.3 shares of Disney to Pixar’s 1 comes out to $59.78 at today’s close. My 60 calls would have been worthless but I sold them as soon as I heard the “strong” rumors. What it did is give Disney (DIS) a fair price for the best animation studio in the world. They now have hits in the bag and most importantly have the best talent in the industry in Lassiter and Jobs, who will now sit on the board. Here comes Monster’s Inc 2 and Toy Story 3 in addition to the movies already slated. This will be looked back upon in a few years as the turning point in 21st century Disney.
