For most men, buying razor blades is a more painful experience than rubbing cologne into a shaving cut. Those little plastic cartridges somehow always end up being the most expensive thing in a man’s bathroom. What’s a guy supposed to do?
The Dollar Shave Club is looking to change all that, and we sincerely hope they succeed. The Santa Monica, CA-based startup ships razors to guys’ doorsteps for as little as $1 a month, including a free handle. Payment is on a monthly or yearly subscription basis, and customers can opt out at will if the service doesn’t stack up. The blades themselves—non-name brand cartridges available in two, four and six-blade models—are manufactured somewhere in Korea. While we can’t speak to the quality of the blades, we’re going to go ahead and assume (and hope) they stack up favorably against whatever those major brands hock for six bucks a pop.
