Going to the Great American Beer Festival? Lord knows you’re going to drink plenty of beer there, but you also need to figure out where to drink while you aren’t in the friendly confines of the Colorado Convention Center. To help you make plans for the weekend, allow us to point you in the right direction.
Falling Rock Tap House (pictured above)
1919 Blake St.
As an official sponsor of GABF, Falling Rock Tap House will be packed all week long, so be prepared to deal with a crowd. However, there’s a good reason the place will be so full: they have one of the best selections of beer in the country. Celebrating beers from coast-to-coast as well as beers from across the ocean, I guarantee you’ll find something new to drink at Falling Rock. They’ve got a Fresh Hop Fest on September 27th to kick off the week of beer drinking, as well as special tappings throughout the week. And they always have lots of special beers in their cooler.
Denver Rare Beer Tasting
McNichols Civic Center
144 W. Colfax Ave
October 3rd, 1:00-4:00
This is the premier event of the weekend, and with so many cool events happening around town, that’s a tremendous compliment. This charity event brings together 50 craft breweries (some you love, some you’ve wanted to try, and some you’ve only dreamed about) to share exotic and rare beers they’ve had stashed away for a special event like this. Tickets are $110, but that includes all your beer, a t-shirt, a glass, and a lunch buffet. Plus, since the money is going to the charity Pints for Prostates, attending this event can be your good deed for the weekend.
Argonaut Wine and Liquor
760 E. Colfax Ave
You may want to buy some beer to take home with you or you may just want to be prepared in case you need a beer in the hotel room. The solution Argonaut, the liquor store with the best and largest selection of craft beer in the city. And since it’s located about a mile from the convention center, it isn’t too far out of the way. Argonaut’s collection of craft beer makes it hard for me to spend less than $100 every time I visit. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable so ask someone to point you in the right direction and fill a cart.
