The Dry Fern cocktail

You probably thought this week’s drink was going to be in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, huh? Sorry, but you’re going to have to get your green beer cocktail elsewhere.

This week, we’re toasting to something much more glorious: President Obama’s appearance on Between Two Ferns, the web talk show hosted by bearded funnyman Zach Galifianakis.

Like Obama’s sense humor during the interview, this cocktail is dry — hence the name the Dry Fern. Fernet Branca and gin (I used Bombay Sapphire) both have a slightly medicinal taste, which is balanced by a squeeze of lime. If you wanted to get really festive, you could also add a sprig of Rosemary; it sort of looks like fern.

The Dry Fern
2 ounces dry gin
1 ounce Fernet Branca
Club soda

Glassware: Rocks glass

Method: Add the gin, Fernet Branca and a squeeze of lime juice to the glass and give it a quick stir. Add a handful of crushed ice, top it off with club soda, and garnish with a lime twist.
