A sling, according to The Food Lover’s Companion, is a cocktail made with lemon juice, powdered sugar, and brandy, gin, vodka, or whiskey. The term “sling” may also be used to describe the act of hurling something at someone… say, Solange Knowles’ foot at her sister Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z in an elevator.

In the spirit of continuing to obsess over the Internet’s biggest news this week — and because I know I never kick a guy in an elevator without a damn good reason — I’ve adapted an old whiskey sling recipe in honor of Solange’s big elevator moment. The Solange Sling may sound sweet, but it’s actually quite tart, and of course, I couldn’t resist throwing some bitters into the mix.

The Solange Sling

2 ounces rye whiskey
1 ounce lemon juice
1 teaspoon powdered or superfine sugar
2 ounces water
A dash or two of bitters

Glassware: Rocks glass

Method: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice, shake it like you’re really mad at it, and strain into a glass. Giant ice cube optional but highly recommended. Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy. Or don’t.
