The news this week was less than inspiring; some might even call it gloomy. Needless to say, we could all use a stiff drink. Considering we’re right in the middle of summer, though, a tangy take on a Dark and Stormy is the perfect solution.

A classic Bermudan cocktail, the Dark and Stormy (or, Dark ‘n’ Stormy) is typically made with dark rum and ginger beer. This tart, spicy twist uses dark spiced rum, equally spicy ginger beer, and fresh-squeezed lemon or lime juice. It’s boozy, refreshing, and after a few, you might even momentarily forget all of the depressing news you read over the past few days.

Tart and Stormy

2 ounces dark, spiced rum
1 ounce fresh-squeezed lemon or lime juice
3 ounces ginger beer

Glassware: Rocks or highball glass

Method: Add the rum and juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into the glass and add a handful of fresh ice. Top it off with a spicy ginger beer, stir, and enjoy.
