Manscaping, as defined by Urban Dictionary—“to groom a man: shaving, waxing, cleaning up the superfluous fur.” Now, we’re big-time facial hair aficionados over here at Made Man HQ. So we’re not suggesting you turn into a Ken doll. But at that time of year when you start purging your wardrobe, upgrading your office space and wearing less, why not clean up your face, back, shoulders, Netherlands, whatever? Here are seven sterling shaving and hair products that’ll make that duty a pleasure.
RZR Razor and Blades (RZR Shaving, $101 for the RZR, $1.70 for the blade): Disposable RZR blades are placed in such a way that there is a large contact area between your face and the titanium blades. There are no moving parts, no cheap materials and a wider face so it won’t clog up. Plus, within a year, you’ll break even cost-wise (versus a traditional razor and overpriced blades) and save money from there.
Imperial Barber Products (Shave Bundle, $36): Complete with a dual-purpose Glycerin Face/Shave Soap, blade glide-enhancing Pre-Shave Oil and a toning and refreshing Bergamot After-Shave, this entire bundle is infused with skin-friendly vitamins. Plus there’s a step-by-step instruction guide so you can’t screw anything up.
Blank Slate White Line Wash & Softener Kit (Beardbrand, $16): The silicone-free gentle lather of the wash is both soft enough for your face and tough enough to handle curly, coarse beard hair two or more times a week. So your freshly groomed beard will also be clean.
Ultimo Facial Toner (Mi-Me, $13): Most men don’t find a need for facial toners, but this one is designed to tighten pores, balance oil complexion and soothe the skin, all while reducing redness caused by eczema, acne, psoriasis and, you guessed it, razor burn.
Junk Stuff (Mayron’s Goods, $30): A moisture barrier cream is essential for those who manscape below the belt. It prevents, heals and soothes chafing, dryness and irritation—which can all be results of shaving. It’s fortified with the active ingredient Zinc Oxide, a number of vitamins and a blend of essential oils like almond, aloe, jojoba, Shea butter and more.
Jojoba Oil (InstaNatural, $14): This cold-pressed and unrefined oil is lightweight, fast-absorbing and free of fragrances, chemicals and preservatives. It works wonders as both a beard oil and a follicle-strengthener. It also works to reduce cracked, flaking cuticles, strengthens the nails and moisturizes the skin. Multipurpose!
Bassu Hydrating Oil (Surface Hair, $23): For those of you seeking a serious beard restoration formula, this all-natural, Vegan, sulfate-free hydrating treatment boosts shine and health. Its deep-penetrating properties reduce frizz, protect color and fight breakage. But you can even use it on your face to beat acne, your lips to heal cold sores, your feet to cure dry heels or your body for anti-aging purposes. Multipurpose, part deux!
