Gugino was born in Sarasota, Florida and grew up splitting her time between her parents’ separate homes in Florida and California.
She modeled as a teenager and eventually started taking acting classes.
Gugino was legally emancipated at 16 and was pursuing a full-time career in acting by the late eighties. Some of her earliest roles included appearances on Saved by the Bell, Who’s the Boss? and Wonder Years.
More recently, she has had recurring roles on the shows Entourage and Californication.
On the film side, Gugino is best known for her roles in the first three Spy Kids films, Sin City and Sucker Punch.
Later this year she'll appear in the film Hotel Noir, a crime drama set in 1958 in which she plays some sort of classy dame. Ten bucks says her character is the subject of a detective's internal monologue at some point.
