These days, we’re obsessed with finding the perfect filter to make that photo pop on Instagram more than anything else. Retro, Gold, Evergreen—it all depends on the mood, right? But when you're taking in the beauty of a place like Aspen, Colorado with an automobile like the all-new 2017 Jaguar F-PACE, you find yourself appreciating a smartphone’s basic features when capturing memorable moments. To illustrate the point, here are my favorite raw photos from a recent test drive, along with key details about this jaw-dropping SUV.
Believe it or not, the Jaguar F-PACE is the British carmaker’s first-ever SUV in the brand’s 80-year history. But that doesn’t stop it from living up to all the high expectations.
Shooting to appeal to a variety of tastes, the all-new F-PACE range includes the base F-PACE model and the F-PACE Premium, F-PACE Prestige, F-PACE R-Sport, F-PACE S and the exclusive F-PACE First Edition—with only 275 units slated for the U.S. market.
If it looks like the F-Pace features some of the same styling cues as the Jaguar F-TYPE sports coupe, it does. The Jaguar team actually drew a lot of inspiration from the race-inspired sports car when designing the SUV.
Jag’s new performance SUV is available in three engine options: a 180hp 2.0-liter Ingenium diesel as well as 340hp F-PACE 35t and 380hp F-PACE S—both powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine that’s as fierce as some of those bulls bucking cowboys at an Aspen rodeo.
Most distinctive design feature? The overall fast, slopping roofline that quickly draws your eye to the rear of the vehicle, where the influences of the F-TYPE are even more apparent.
The all-wheel-drive F-PACE is as alluring on the road as it is parked in valet. Even at elevations more than 12,000 feet above treeline, the SUV is a thrill, cornering through some pretty steep climbs in the mountains with no major lag in power.
Not only was the F-Pace a blast to drive on the winding roads of Colorado, but also it’s the first Jag to be tested during engineering on a well-known proving ground in Sweden that includes graveled mountain passes, and it’s fun to drive off-road as well.
The F-PACE showcases a number of new innovations that will drive the future of the luxury carmaker. One of the coolest? The optional Jaguar InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, featuring a 10.2-inch touch-screen that enables you to customize the homescreen with personal widgets.
Pricing for the F-PACE starts at $41,990 and caps off at $56,700 for the top-of-the-line model, featuring standard 22-inch Double Helix 15-spoke silver finish wheels and performance tires.
Our top pick? Probably the exclusive F-PACE First Edition (featured in most of the photos), if cash—and availability—aren’t factors. That said, the black-on-black 35t R-Sport model pictured in the top right hand corner is about as sinister as factory SUVs get.
Yup, some things are just better enjoyed in their more natural, authentic form.
