Television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck is in the news this morning after engaging in a heated debate with comedian Bill Maher on ABC’s The View yesterday. Come to think of it, “debate” isn’t really the right word. It was more like a five-minute period of drawn-out awkwardness during which Hasselbeck slung attempted disses at Maher, who proceeded to rebuke each with the type of biting one-liners that have made him so popular in the comedy world. Still, Hasselbeck is kind of cute for a doggedly partisan wannabe politico, which means we are kind of obligated to throw together a few pictures of her for your viewing pleasure.
Hasselbeck initially dug into Maher for a comment he made in February stating that she should be sent to Egypt in exchange for CBS reporter Lara Logan, who had recently been assaulted there by a mob of protesters.
Maher brushed off Hasselbeck’s criticism with a couple of jokes. The other View ladies then attempted to change the subject.
Apparently unsatisfied with her first attempt at disarming Maher, Hasselbeck came at him again and again with sarcasm, then criticism, then more sarcasm.
Meanwhile, Joy Behar and Barbara Walters sat by awkwardly, trying their best to reroute the conversation and save Maher—and the entire segment—from Hasselbeck’s ongoing barrage.
All in all, the interview ended up being a mildly entertaining back-and-forth verbal tussle during which no real topic of substance was addressed at any point. In other words, it was just a regular episode of The View.
