HBO's Game of Thrones is back in all its sword-swinging glory, and so is Lena Headey, reprising her role as the perpetually-scowling Queen Cersei. Headey may play a manipulative, questionably evil would-be dictator on the show, but it’s those qualities that make her character strangely appealing. Here’s a bio-gallery to help you get to know the actress behind the character.
Headey is British and was born on the island territory of Bermuda.
Her career started when a casting agent spotted her in a school play when she was 17. The agent encouraged her to audition for a part in the 1992 film Waterland. She did, and won the role.
She has portrayed several notable science fiction and fantasy characters throughout her career, including Sarah Connor from the Terminator universe and Queen Gorgo in 300.
Headey has received praise from fans and critics for her role as Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones.
Later this year, she’ll appear in the Judge Dredd reboot Dredd.
When she's not acting, Headey practices yoga and boxing.
