When you hear the term “social media correspondent,” you might picture some nerdy chick reporting Facebook and Twitter news. And yet Christina Milian—who has taken over that role on NBC’s hit singing competition The Voice (Monday 8 Eastern)—is much more “hot” than “nerdy.” What follows is our exclusive Q&A/slideshow with this Made Babe, who talks music, fitness and, of course, what it takes to win her over.
MADE MAN: How’s your gig going on The Voice? CHRISTINA MILIAN: Great! I am heavily involved with blogging and tweeting and I love it! Last season, our show was tops in social media engagement. Viewers are very engaged with the contestants. They want to be involved and see the exclusive content that we do. And as a recording artist, I understand what's going on. It’s really challenging to get what it takes to put everything on the line like all these gifted singers do.
MM: Are we going to see you do a duet on the show? CM: I would love to, with any of the judges! I’d really love to do one with Cee Lo. He’d be the easiest one to convince, since he’s a big flirt!
MM: Name five songs that improve your mood. CM: Ooh! Alicia Keys’ “Butterfly,” Destiny’s Child’s “Happy Face,” one of my songs, “Us Against the World,” Lil Wayne and Drake’s “She Will” and [anything from] Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne. I could hear them a million times!
MM: You look great. Doing anything interesting in the gym? CM: I definitely have to start going back! This winter, I was very lax and needed to rest, but I am definitely going to start hiking again and eating right! Squats are great for the booty and the thighs and that’s the key to everything. Hold in your abs with everything you do, because that’s the core of your body.
MM: What’s your next social media/Internet goal? CM: I’d really like to do my own podcast, and my own Internet radio show, similar to what Voice host Carson Daly does. I would love to develop my own web series! Of course, I am negotiating my next record deal, and that is really exciting too!
MM: You’re divorced. Any advice for getting back into the dating scene? CM: Take your time. Don’t rush into anything. You have plenty of time to get to know people. And when you meet a gal like me, don’t be so fresh! Behave yourself!
MM: What kind of guy are you looking for? CM: I like a family guy, someone who respects his parents. I have a daughter, Violet, and she deserves only the best! And I love a great personality! You don’t have to go over the top to impress me.
MM: Any dating don’ts? CM: Don’t kiss me on the first date. I like to wait.
MM: What do you think of social media for meeting a girl? CM: I think it’s great. I know several people who have gotten married after meeting online. And they didn’t even live in the same state! They are so happy now. I highly recommend Facebook—you can take your time and get to know people’s thoughts and opinions from reading their wall.
