She may have seemed all innocent and sweet on 7th Heaven, but even way back then, the tall (5’8”) drink of water that is Jessica Biel could make any guy thirsty as hell. When she’s not kicking ass, of course, as she will be alongside Colin Farrell in the new Total Recall reboot. She talked with us about battling Kate Beckinsale, waiting for the hover board and sculpting her gorgeous physique. Enjoy the visual aids!
MADE MAN: In this movie, we hear you really duke it out with Kate Beckinsale… JESSICA BIEL: It was fun being the girl that gets to do it! You know, you don’t want to always be objectified and sexualized. It’s the gender neutrality in this particular fight what was really exciting for us, because it wasn’t about anything but two incredibly capable warrior women just beating the shit out of each other! Which men get to do all the time.
MM: Who kicks ass better, you or Kate? JB: This is the question that everyone keeps asking, and I don’t know! Probably she does because she’s got more experience in this kind of ‘really kicking ass’ kind of world. She’s wiry. I would be afraid if I ran into her late in the dark alleyway.
MM: How did you prepare your body for all this kickassery? JB: I eat a pretty clean diet. But I had to cut out all the wine and cheese and pasta and all the yummy stuff. You just have to do it. Exercise-wise, I had a pretty good mix of martial arts, boxing training, Parkour, and then my own personal weight training just for upkeep, and lots of yoga to keep length in the body.
MM: The more you do it, do you start to believe that in real life you actually can [kick ass]? JB: You sort of have an unrealistic view of your abilities. For sure I do, but then, you also learn some things. I could have some moves that I maybe wouldn’t have had if I hadn’t have done a couple of films like this, but I definitely have a warped view of facing off with a big guy. Like, Oh, I could take that guy! I think that and it would not go down that way!
MM: If you could have an adventure injected into you, Total Recall-style, have you thought what it would be? JB: I’ve had a lot of different ideas about what the adventure would be. I would love to be Indiana Jones in The Temple of Doom. A space adventure would be good. I’d like to be a mermaid under water, that’d be cool. I could go on forever. I have lots of fantasies!
MM: What do you want to do next? JB: I don’t know! I just want to be inspired…. it could be some weird comedy or drama. A lot of the time, it’s very character or director dependent for me to get inspired by something.
MM: One thing that’s great about sci-fi films is getting glimpses of what technology might eventually become. Would you ever implant a phone into your own hand, if that became option? JB: I don’t think so. I’m kind of freaked out about implants, in general! I’m not really a techie person either. I will probably still have a Blackberry when people have phones implanted in their hands. But I’m into hover cars. I’ve been waiting for that hover board forever… where’s that? I mean, come on, what’s going on here?
