She’s graced the cover of the SI Swimsuit Issue (twice!) and Vanity Fair’s 100th anniversary issue, walked the runway for Victoria’s Secret and gone viral with multiple impromptu dances. How could Miss Upton possibly top these feats? By becoming America’s hottest Mo Sista, of course. That’s right, the 21-year-old supermodel has teamed up with Gillette to support our favorite mo-growin’, cancer-fightin’ charity. So we asked her about grooming, Twitter and pickup lines. Check it out! (There are photos, too, for those allergic to reading.)
First off, how’d you get involved with Gillette and Movember? I think Movember is such an amazing cause to bring awareness for men’s health and also for men to try different moustache styles. And it’s awesome to be with Team Gillette because I learn how guys can keep trimmed and edged during the month. As a woman, you get a bit worried that guys are like “Oh, we never shave, and we don’t have to keep it groomed!” But you do, and you make it look nice.
What would you say to any potential Mo Bros out there who are on the fence about participating? It’s for such a great cause, I don’t see the reason why you wouldn’t. I think every man during Movember should definitely grow a moustache.
For a guy who’s self-conscious about how his mo will be received by women, what’s your advice? That’s what so great about Movember—you can try new styles and you always have the excuse and the reason that you’re doing it for a good cause. No woman can question a man who’s charitable.
What do you suggest to the Mo Sistas? They want to be involved, but most of them can’t grow a moustache, so… Mo Sistas are really important because they can raise awareness too. And I think that being supportive when your man or your guy friends try a new mo is really important for the guy’s self-esteem.
What’s the worst men’s grooming faux pas? I think a man who doesn’t care and doesn’t groom at all is the worst. There’s a way to look rugged and like you don’t care, but by trimming and keeping everything edged and nice.
Would you ever let a guy shave your legs? That is so interesting you brought that up. I really think that I should shave my own body and you should shave yours. I think there need to be some boundaries left in relationships.
You have a million Twitter followers. How often do you check it? I check it a lot. I really like Twitter. A lot of times I don’t read my comments…
So what’s the best way to get your attention? Say something funny or be clever. Those are usually the tweets I answer.
So if a guy’s approaching you, he should say something genuine, organic to the situation? Exactly.
What’s the best pickup line you’ve come across, either real or virtual? I honestly don’t think that there are any good pickup lines. It’s not a way I like to be approached. I like someone who’s just nice and themselves and naturally funny.
What would you say is the number one thing that makes a man, a man? Having the confidence to rock a Mo during Movember.
What’s the number one thing you look for in a guy? Amazing sense of humor and a great smile.
You’ve gone viral for doing the Dougie and then the Cat Daddy. What dance craze is next? Honestly, I’ve never done a dance that wasn’t just me having fun and goofing around. I never plan things like that.
Last but not least, what’s coming up for you? Where can we see you next? I have a lot of fun new projects coming up that I can’t really share yet. But it won’t be that long till it comes out.
Top secret! But it’s gonna be big and awesome? Yup… have I ever disappointed you? Editor’s note: Nope.
