She might’ve played a young, hot blonde coveted by every guy on 30 Rock, but in real life, Katrina Bowden is… a young, hot blonde coveted by every guy. We caught up with the 24-year-old stunner at a Gillette K.I.S.S. campaign event in Miami to ask about the Garden State, Tracy Morgan and bad pick-up lines. Keep clicking to see her answers… and more pictures, of course.
MADE MAN: Just a hunch, but we’re betting you’re a beach girl. Got a favorite beach? KATRINA BOWDEN: I do consider myself a beach girl. I love the beach. My favorite beach is probably in Cabo. The water is crystal clear and it’s just always sunny and warm. But I don’t care. I’m a sucker for any beach. If it’s a beach and it’s sunny, I’ll take it, ha ha.
MM: You’re from New Jersey. Did you ever do the Jersey Shore beach house thing? KB: Yeah, I have friends whose families own houses on the Jersey Shore, so I went down there a lot. It’s not all bad, like you see on MTV. That’s like one segment. That’s where the boardwalk is. The Jersey Shore, it kind of has a bad rap, but it’s actually really nice in a lot of parts.
MM: You are best known as Cerie from 30 Rock. In what ways are you like her, and in what ways are you not? KB: I’m most like Cerie in that I’m in my early twenties and I’m blonde. And that’s probably it. She’s kind of an airhead and has no motivation to do anything with her life, and that’s just completely the opposite of me. I am very motivated and driven, and I like to think I’m not an airhead, ha ha. So, you know, it’s all acting.
MM: Do you have a favorite memory from the show? KB: I have so many great memories. I was 17 when I started. I learned everything about comedy from that show. I had no idea what I was doing before I showed up on set. I think my best memories are just watching Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey perform and act in scenes. It was just such a great lesson.
MM: Do you have a super-quick Tracy Morgan story? KB: One time I smelled incense burning, and so I popped my head into Tracy’s room and said, “What is that?” And next thing I know, he hands me these three sticks of burning incense, and I didn’t want to say no, so I just took them. And then I had to go to set, and they were like, “Why are you holding these?” I’m like, “I don’t know, Tracy gave them to me, I don’t know what to do with them!” Ha ha. He’s definitely a wildcard sometimes, but in a very good way.
MM: You’ve probably heard a lot of bad pickup lines over the years. What’s the worst? KB: One time recently this guy said to me, “My friends said that you’re an actress, and I didn’t know that.” And then I said, “OK, cool.” And we were about to walk away, and then he said to my friend, “What is it like to be her friend?” And if you could imagine that sounding insanely awkward, just imagine it even more awkward than that. It was the worst line ever. I felt kind of bad. I was like, man, that guy had no game at all. Ha ha.
MM: So what’s the gist of this Gillette K.I.S.S. campaign? KB: Gillette traveled the country to find out if women preferred a man who was clean-shaven or a man with stubble. And they found that eighty-five percent of women preferred to kiss a man who was clean-shaven. So we’re giving guys a chance to try out the Gillette Fusion ProGlide and potentially get luckier by the end of the night, ha ha.
MM: Other than keeping a smooth-shaven face, got any other dating tips for guys? KB: I think a lot of guys wear way too much cologne, and I don’t know any girl who likes that. I think it’s an immediate turnoff. You shouldn’t smell like you have some stuff on. And I don’t think guys should be wearing more accessories than a girl is. And I also think that you just need to be yourself, and a lot of people try too hard to be something else. It might work in the short-term, but if you’re looking for someone in the long-term, you need to be yourself.
MM: Last question, where can we see you next? KB:I just did a cameo in Scary Movie 5. And I have a movie coming out this summer called Nurse 3-D, so you can see me there...
