For the second year in a row, über-gorgeous Victoria’s Secret Angel Selita Ebanks is co-hosting Rip the Runway on BET. (The music-meets-fashion special airs multiple times throughout the month.) If that’s somehow not enough hotness for you, wait till you see the beauties showcasing SASS By Selita Ebanks, her new swimwear line. The sizzling supermodel, whose looks are matched only by her drive, has sage advice for Made Men, as writer Susan L. Hornik learned in this exclusive Q&A.
Made Man: You have a swimwear line, you model, you host—how do you do it all? Selita Ebanks: I have an amazing team of people behind me who help. There are so many things I want to do—publish a book, act in a movie, expand the SASS brand, produce movies—you name it! Plus, I love cooking so I would love to get a degree in culinary arts. And I want to go to The Parsons School to learn how to sketch, too. I try not to wear myself thin, but I definitely think I can do it all.
MM: Wow. So how can guys who have big plans like yours make them all happen? SE: Focus and execute. It's OK to have a million ideas, but you have to be willing to follow through until the end. Never be satisfied with your comfort zone.
MM: What can guys look forward to seeing with your swimwear? SE: I think all men will love not only my SASS collection but also any of the ladies who are walking the runway. I picked all different body types so we have something for every guy's taste.
MM: What kind of swimwear looks good on a guy? Mid-thigh short? Speedo? SE: I like the mid-thigh short. Definitely not a Speedo unless he has really muscular legs. And I like a firm tushy, so if he has one, he might as well show it off! Unless he is a surfer he doesn't need to wear a board short. If the guy is short, he should not wear shorts that cover his knees. The worst thing is basketball shorts. They don’t have support netting, and when they become wet and cling, let’s just say it’s too much information revealed. That’s not good at all!
MM: Any other tips for guys who are a bit, um, fashion challenged? SE: Put more effort into your appearance. I love tailored suits and shirts that fit. You don't have to look like you are going to the gym all the time. Dress like a man! Even a T-shirt and jeans and a nice pair of boots is good, but you have to make sure they fit you well.
MM: If a guy spots a Victoria’s Secret model, how can he catch her eye? SE: Confidence is everything. He should just be himself and stay calm. Use a little humor—laughter can stop any insecurity. If he doesn't try too hard—i.e. drop any boring one-liners—he will have a much easier time getting a date. And this goes for meeting any girl: if you tell her she is beautiful and walk away, she will think it's the sexiest thing anyone has ever done. She might even call you!
MM: What kind of guy do you look for? SE: I love positive people because I am so ambitious. I don't like to hear the word 'no' or that I can't do something. I want a guy who is solution-based—always optimistic vs. dwelling on the negative. And please don't take life so seriously! You have to know how to relax. It's just the ego of being a man that interferes with the enjoyment of life and finding someone you really connect with…
MM: When should a guy buy swimwear for a girl? SE: I’d wait until they are intimate. Probably like the sixth or seventh date. Editor’s note: Noted.
