Dobrev is originally from Bulgaria, and moved to Canada at the age of two.
She grew up in Toronto, and briefly attended Ryerson University before dropping out in 2006 to pursue an acting career.
One of her first regular gigs was a part on the Canadian drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, in which she appeared as a single teenage mother for four seasons.
Dobrev is currently best known for her role on the CW drama The Vampire Diaries.
Her film credits to date include parts in Chloe and The Roommate.
Dobrev is fluent in English, French and Bulgarian.
