We're proud to say the new most beautiful woman in the universe (by pageant standards) is an American. Olivia Culpo, 20, already Miss Rhode Island and Miss America, was crowned the winner of Miss Universe 2012 in Las Vegas last night, defeating competition from six continents to claim the title. Good on you, Olivia. Here's a bio-gallery to help you get to know your new queen.
Culpo is the first American to win the Miss Universe competition since 1997.
She won the Miss USA crown this past summer.
When she's not on the pageant circuit, Culpo attends Boston University.
She previously won the 2012 Miss Rhode Island pageant. It was the first pageant she had entered.
Culpo is a cellist who has performed at Boston Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall.
She studies communications at BU and says she might want to go into broadcasting.
A brainy beauty, she’s been on the Dean’s List at BU every semester.
Culpo also works as a model and actress.
She names Audrey Hepburn as her idol.
Culpo is interested in cancer research, and in her Miss USA role, she has raised funds and awareness for breast and ovarian cancer studies.
We'd say the Miss Universe judges picked well.
