How do you celebrate the life of an icon like Prince? If you’re a fan who works for a super exclusive car company like Koenigsegg Automotive, you create a unforgettable automobile in his honor, of course. Sure, the “Little Red Corvette” might be the car most associated with the music legend. But we sense he’d also approve of this custom Koenigsegg Regera, which was designed as a tribute and limited to just 80 vehicles worldwide.
The supercar is part of a new series in which Koenigsegg employees are asked to come up with a rendering for their ideal Regera. This one is the brainchild of Steven Wade, who works in communications for the company. It boasts an eye-popping purple carbon exterior finish with white striping and clear carbon side intakes, and the finishing exterior touches include white calipers behind carbon wheels.
The Regera is also considered one of the most technically advanced cars ever built, as it is the first car in the world that operates all body closures completely automatically. Intended to be just as alluring on the track as it is standing still, the Regera also features the world’s first totally foldable, active, top-mounted rear wing.
Powered by a twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors, the sleek hybrid supercar puts out 1,500 horsepower and is touted as the fasted accelerating, most powerful production car ever made. For the interior, the self-described “massive” Prince fan opted for a “snow leather” finish with a basket weave pattern on the seats.
Now, before all you Prince fans start planning that new car purchase in tribute to the artist, keep this in mind—the Koenigsegg Regera costs around $2.3 million, a figure equal to the price of about 41 new Chevrolet Corvettes. That certainly makes a little red ’vette sound a lot more feasible, no?
