Arriba, friends.  It's time to knock back a cool margarita.  But, you'd rather not make the trek to your favorite cantina.  Why'd you buy that gigantic big screen anyway?  So, if you're settling in at home for the night and want to make yourself a marg', here are the three most important variations you ought to have mastered. You don't need the most expensive tequila, you just need your favorite tequila, and a little know-how.

Original/Ultimate/Classic Margarita

There is little debate over how to make the classic margarita. It’s a 3-recipe drink, and it only takes about 60 seconds to make. Most of the variation in this recipe is in the ratio of the three ingredients, but the most popular one (and the easiest to remember) is 3 parts tequila : 2 parts cointreau : one part fresh lime juice.

3 oz Agave Tequila of your choice
2 oz cointreau orange liqueur
1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice

Assemble ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain and serve.

Optional steps
Add a table spoon of caro syrup to cut tartness
Use Triple Sec instead of cointreau
Rim the glass with rock salt

Frozen Margarita

The frozen margarita is much the same as the Original Margarita, with one weird, semi-gross change and one relatively normal change. The normal change is “blend it with ice.” The un-normal one is “also blend it with an egg white for frothiness.”

3 oz Agave Tequila of your choice
2 oz cointreau orange liqueur
1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
1 egg white

Assemble ingredients in blender, then fill ¾ of the way full with cubed ice. Blend until frothy.

Optional steps
Add 1 oz of lemon juice for a twist
Add a table spoon of caro syrup to cut tartness
Use Triple Sec instead of cointreau
Rim the glass with rock salt

Blue Margarita

The Blue Margarita is more an aesthetic choice than an alcoholic one. It uses Blue Curacao

3 oz Agave Tequila of your choice
2 oz cointreau orange liqueur
1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice
2 oz Blue Curacao
1 tsp sugar

Assemble ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake until chilled, serve.

Optional steps
Can also be served blended as in the frozen margarita.
