CHICAGO, Feb 1 (Reuters) – The International Securities Exchange Inc. (ISE.N: Quote, Profile, Research), the largest U.S. equity options exchange, on Wednesday said that total equity and index options volume last month rose 49.5 percent from a year ago.
January volume was at a record 53.8 million contracts from 36 million contracts traded in same year-ago period.

Average daily trading volume for January stood at an all-time high of 2.7 million contracts, up 49.5 percent on the year.
ISE, an all-electronic market based in New York, said it traded more volume in 600 of 829 issues in its listings than any other options exchange.
Excluding volume data related to dividend trades executed on other U.S. exchanges, ISE said its equity option market share for the month would have increased to 34.5 percent from 32.3 percent, a rise of 2.2 market share points.
Shares of ISE rose 97 cents or $2.61 percent to $38.12 in late trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
