Until today, the biggest Mako shark ever caught was a 624 pounder off the coast of Boston. But, then, a group of Floridian fisherman caught a monstrous 748 pound Mako shark off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale Florida. For a frame of reference, Great White sharks can reach weights of almost 5,000 pounds, but that’s not to say that the Mako isn’t deadly in its own right.

Though it accounts for fewer unprovoked attacks on humans than the iconic Great White, the Mako shark has been known to attack boats, and has a bite that is capable of sinking a boat in three minutes. It’s also characterized by its aggression and speed when it comes to being caught, making it a particularly desirable game fish.
