At the Maison et Objet design fair in Paris last week, one of the preeminent themes was something we’re a big fan of here on Made Man: The Man Cave. Men have long-known the necessity of personal space and the luxury of having one specifically carved out of mostly-natural materials designed just for them. Happily, artists are designers are now recognizing it, too.
In this age of socialized networks (FRIEND US HERE! LOL) it’s difficult to find a little quiet, private time at all. There’s not many places where you can’t stay plugged in, and the alone time is at a premium. The AFP reports:
“Privacy has become a luxury,” Leriche said. “In a globalised world where everything moves so fast, we want to slow things down, get back in touch with nature, with the seasons — and with the animal world.”
This is “cocooning” — the decade-old idea of the home as a safe, soothing nest — but pushed to the extreme, and with a dose of humour thrown in as well.
