Two months into the 2011 MLS season, the LA Galaxy is at the top of the standings and their captain leads the league in goals (see his greatest hits in the video below). In other words, it’s a pretty typical year for Landon Donovan, 10-time All-Star, all-time US Men’s National Team leading scorer and the man behind one of the most dramatic World Cup strikes in history. As the national team heads into a crucial Gold Cup game (tonight vs. Guadeloupe, 9 p.m. EST on Fox Soccer Channel), Lando dispatches our Man of the Moment questions, just for kicks.
UPDATE: Thanks to a laser strike from Jozy Altidore, the US won the match 1-0 to advance to the Gold Cup Quarterfinals.
MM: What’s your drink of choice after a tough day?
LD: Water. I’m boring, I know.
MM: What’s one thing a guy can do in the morning to look and feel good all day?
LD: Brush your teeth and take a shower. Gotta feel fresh.
MM: What can soccer teach guys about being better men?
LD: Playing sports in general teaches you things that you might not get otherwise: teamwork, leadership, hard work and most of all, dependability. I think men need to be more responsible and dependable, and when you have a job as an athlete, you have to be.
MM: Any parting words of wisdom?
LD: Be present.
