Well, it is officially fall. Thankfully, the world’s best booze purveyors are amply prepared. Take, for example, Karl Franz Williams, national brand ambassador for D’USSÉ and owner of Harlem’s 67 Orange Street and New Haven’s upcoming Bar Philosophi. In a Barclays Center suite for a Black Keys show last week, Williams mixed up a variety of seasonal cocktails. Our favorite was Beyond the Equinox, a soul-warming combination of D’USSÉ, lemon juice, cinnamon and cider. The key to its smooth-drinking nature is “double straining,” which you’ll learn all about in the video below. Then use the recipe to whip up the cocktail yourself. Fall needs a proper welcome, and this is it…

Beyond the Equinox
½ oz. D’USSÉ
¾ oz. Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
¾ oz. House-made Cinnamon Simple Syrup*
1 oz. Hard Cider
Dash Angostura Bitters

Combine the D’USSÉ, lemon juice, cinnamon syrup and Angostura bitters in a shaker. Shake and serve up in a coupe glass. Finish with the hard cider and a little stir.

*To make cinnamon syrup, add cinnamon sticks to boiling water until the water begins to take on a brownish hue, then add equal parts sugar to the water to create a 1-to-1 syrup.
