There are countless Christmas movies, and new ones being added each each year, but these ten Christmas holiday movies are the best. Some Christmas holiday movies can be a bit cheesy and filled with too much cheer, but most people can usually overlook that around the holidays. Here are the ten best Christmas holiday movies, and not all of them are family-friendly.

  1. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." Clark Griswold and his family are so funny to watch that this movie is often played repeatedly over the holidays. You can easily watch the edited version on television around the holidays, but this film is funnier when you watch the un-edited version on DVD.
  2. "It's a Wonderful Life." James Stewart did not receive much recognition for this holiday film when it was released, yet this movie would eventually become one of the greatest holiday movies ever. The ending of this movie is widely regarded as being one of the best finishes to any movie ever made.
  3. "Miracle on 34th Street." This is a classic movie here. The movie is cheesy and the story line is so-so, but the acting of the young Natalie Wood and the heartfelt meaning of the movie makes this a can't miss movie to watch with your family at Christmas time.
  4. "A Christmas Story." All Ralphie Parker wanted for Christmas was a Red Rider BB gun. This is a classic holiday movie that is watched every year in many households. This movie takes you back to our own innocent years as we laugh at the misfortunes of the characters in this movie.
  5. "Home Alone." Young Kevin gets left alone for the Christmas holiday and thwarts two thieves trying to break into his home. You all know the plot because you've probably have seen this movie numerous times, but it's still funny!
  6. "A Smoky Mountain Christmas." This is a pretty cheesy holiday movie , ut it stars Dolly Parton. This makes the list as one of the best Christmas holiday movies because the whole family can watch it together and Dolly Parton looks the best she ever has. This movie can be viewed on TV around the holidays, but it has not been released on DVD yet.
  7. "Elf." Will Ferrell plays a goofy and innocent elf in this comical Christmas holiday movie. Will Ferrell's character is one of the funniest toles he has ever played, a human that was raised at the North Pole and grew up around elves. If you like Will Ferrell and his comedy style then you will love this movie.
  8. "Bad Santa." This is definitely not a family movie. Billy Bob Thornton stars in this Christmas comedy, a funny and dirty humored movie for adults. If "Bad Santa" is not dirty enough or you then you can buy "Badder Santa" which is the unrated version of the movie.
  9. "Die Hard." This is generally only considered a Christmas movie if you are a guy. Bruce Willis and his acting in"Die Hard" make it one of the few action flicks that can be watched repeatedly.
  10. "The Santa Clause." Tim Allen stars in this quintessential Christmas classic. "The Santa Clause" is a must watch holiday movie that is funny, even if you watch it in the summer time.
