People getting ready to enter or return to the workforce may be wondering about the 10 best new careers. The types of jobs that are in demand change every year as new technologies arrive, tastes change and old, forgotten about jobs rise to the top of the pile as they come back into vogue.

  1. Web Designer Believe it or not, there are still thousands of companies in the United States and around the world that are not yet online. At some point, these companies will make the move to the modern age and the demand for web designers makes that job one of the ten best new careers.
  2. Computer Software Engineer Web designers can only take you so far if you do not have a computer capable of doing what you want it to, which is why computer software engineers are in demand. Software engineers create all the programs that crash our computers and they get paid again for writing the patches. Sounds like one of the best career avenues out there.
  3. Technical Writers These people are not the Charles Dickens or J.K. Rowling type of writers--they are people who don't mind writing tedious material because it has to be written by someone. The pay is good and the work is plentiful, but just remember to leave your personality at home.
  4. Mathematician Most people drop math as soon as they are able in school, so the select few who carry it on through college are in demand. One of the ten best careers today is working in some capacity as a mathematician. Whether as a teacher or as a government worker, it is a safe occupation and fairly well paid.
  5. Loan Workout Officers All those bad mortgages that are clogging up the stock market and ruining the economy need fixing, so loan workout officers are on the rise. It is not an entirely new career option, but it is a sector that has grown rapidly with no end in site.
  6. Bailiffs This is another old job that has risen to the top of the job listings due to the recession. Bailiffs have a reputation for being mean and heartless, but a job is a job and someone has to do the dirty work.
  7. Phone Sex Operators People are working longer hours these days, which means there is not much time for dating. Phone sex operators can watch TV or eat dinner while whispering a few naughty words to people on the other end of the line. It is one of the best careers for people who want to work from home.
  8. Garbage Collector People continue to create garbage, but the modern day garbage man has to do more than just dump trash in the truck. These days, garbage men have to sort through trash and recycle anything salvageable. It takes care and it is a safe career option.
  9. Private Detectives Shows like "Cheaters" have encouraged paranoid people to hire private detectives like never before. This job requires the ability to bug houses, wear disguises and spy on sleazy businessmen or wayward housewives. It is one of the best careers for nosy people.
  10. Professional Snowboarders Snowboarding continues to grow in popularity and sports companies are throwing money at the top competitors. It does not cost that much to get into the sport and it is one of the best careers for picking up women.
