There are quite a few movies with plane crashes in them but these plane crash movies are especially intense in a variety of ways. - "Alive". This movie was based on the true story of a rugby team that crashed in the Andes Mountains in 1972. Not only does it have one of the best plane crashes ever made, the survivors had to eat the dead in order to survive. You don't get much more harrowing than that.
- "Final Destination". This first installment of many sequels showed a plane crash that began as a dream and became a premonition. It is really intense and sets the entire tone for the movie.
- "Cast Away". This was a huge hit and starred Tom Hanks as the lone survivor of a FedEx plane that crashed in the middle of nowhere. He had to learn to survive on a deserted island.
- "Con Air". What better way to showcase a plane crash than in Las Vegas? Nicolas Cage stars in this action drama about a plane taken over by convicts.
- "2012". This one isn't on many lists yet but should be. Not only are there multiple scenes of disasters happening while a plane flies through, there is a another scene with a plane crashing in the snow. It's as beautiful as it is intense.
- "Passenger 57". This is a 1992 movie starring Wesley Snipes and involves terrorists taking over a passenger plane. It has a lot of martial arts and includes the hijackers shoving a dead body out of the door while the plane is in flight.
- "Knowing". Starring Nicolas Cage as a man who finds out what some secret numbers means to our future, one of the premonitions he has is of a major plane crash. Seeing the plane flying towards the grid locked cars is absolutely stunning.
