Being that football is a sport that naturally arouses our base emotions by evoking strong sentiments in those who play and those who watch, what are the 10 best songs that get you pumped up for football? Many players will sit in the locker room before the game blasting their favorite music to get psyched up for the action. The same goes for football fans. Many like to get an adrenaline rush by blasting their favorite pump up songs.  What makes a good pump up song for football?  It doesn't have to belong to a specific musical genre, it only has to get you, the fan, excited and enthusiastic for the upcoming game. For most people, the songs that bring about that kind of adrenalin rush are rock or rap/hip hop.

  1. "Boom" - P.O.D. A Christian rock song at number 1? Well, this isn't a Christian rock song, but a good, old-fashioned rock song. The "Boom!" of the chorus gives the song its impact.
  2. "Sabotage" - Beastie Boys. Adam Horovitz's "Whyyyyy!?" is the oral climax of the song, but great guitar work, especially a killer bass guitar solo, and a nonstop beat make this song one that deserves its ranking as one of the best songs to get you pumped up for football.
  3. "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions" - Queen. In all honesty, this Queen classic duo should be at the top, but it's ubiquity knocks it down a few spots. From Mercury's soaring vocals on "We Are the Champions," to the stomp-stomp-clap, chanting lyrics and scorching guitar solos of "We Will Rock You," these two songs have been sporting event standards for years and probably will be for years to come.
  4. "Let's Get It Started" - Black Eyed Peas. This song is simply infectious. If you can't get revved up by listening to it, then you have no emotions.
  5. "Welcome to the Jungle" - Guns N' Roses. Axl Rose's screaming lyrics and Slash's explosive guitar work - You're in the jungle baby!
  6. "Mama Said Knock You Out" - LL Cool J. This hardcore hip-hop classic from 1991 doesn't get the respect it deserves. To paraphrase from the lyrics: Don't call it a comeback, it's been here for years.
  7. "Cum On Feel the Noize" - Quiet Riot. Ah, the 1980's. Hair bands and heavy metal. This 1983 cover of Slade's 1973 version rocks hard, really hard. Fun lyrics and slick guitar work. "So cum on feel the noize, Girls rock your boys, We get wild, wild, wild." If you don't feel alive while belting that out, then you aren't.
  8. "We're Not Gonna Take It" - Twisted Sister. This glam rock classic was released in 1984 and has stood the test of time. It's an ultimate ode to rebellion and that's what rock and roll is all about, isn't it?
  9. "Bodies" - Drowning Pool. Lead singer Dave Williams died of heart failure in 2002, but he and Drowning Pool left us this great alternative metal song from 2001. The chorus of "Let the bodies hit the floor!" is anthemic and addictive.
  10. “Start Me Up” – The Rolling Stones. This song was originally recorded by the Stones in 1975 but never made it onto vinyl until 1981; it was cut from three straight albums before finally landing on 1981's "Tattoo You." This song that wouldn't die opens with one of Richards' patented guitar riffs and goes on to rock from there. It really will "start you up" for a football game. Har.
