Many people are looking for unusual or exotic travel destinations these days, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, so here are 10 cheap international travel destinations. Some of them may seem a little odd, if not downright controversial, but, they do fall in the category of cheap international travel destinations.

  1. Thailand: International travel destinations in Asia are going to be very budget-friendly, and Thailand is located in Asia. So, while you’re there, go on an elephant safari or visit Pattaya, a popular beach resort.

  2. Mexico City, Mexico: Reasonably-priced hotels in Mexico City are located only a short distance from bullfight arenas, soccer stadiums, and museums.

  3. Vietnam: This is the one of the cheap international travel destinations that may be considered controversial to be listed on this site, but many Vietnam vets are traveling there to seek closure from the experiences that still haunt them. Many say it did help them to revisit some of the places they had been before as soldiers in a civilian capacity. And, because Vietnam is actively seeking tourism, many bargain packages are available.

  4. Bali: This country has every type of terrain from coastal to mountainous, with different things to see in each one.

  5. Vancouver, Canada: The site of the 2010 Winter Olympics offers tours of the city and surrounding areas that start as low as $30.00 per person.

  6. London, England: Many museums are free or very moderately priced. In addition, some passes can be bought for as low as 30 euros, which allow entry into multiple places, such as three different palaces.

  7. Russia: Specifically, St. Petersburg and Moscow. Make hotel reservations at least three months in advance, eat where locals eat, and avoid obvious “touristy” attractions, and this will indeed be one of the cheapest international travel destinations.

  8. Cancun, Mexico: Go to this popular vacation spot during the summer. It’s hotter then, but rates are cheaper.

  9. Puerto Rico: This island territory of the United States offers meals from $3-$30 per person (that’s good old US dollars by the way), and lodgings at $40-$75 per night.

  10. Aruba: Lodging in non-resort hotels can be as low as $68 to $80 a night; meals can be as low as $5 or as much as you want to spend. And, consider this: while the initial cost of all-inclusive resort may be high (as much as $400 per night) many meals, snacks, and other amenities are included in the price, so this can in the long run be considered a cheap way to see one of the most beautiful international travel destinations.
