  1. Drink plenty of water and sugar free beverages. Drink plenty of water and sugar free beverages like seltzer with lime and added flavors. Beverages with few calories do not add more carbs to your diet. They help keep the pounds off by flushing out your system and quenching your thirst without too much sugar. Try sugar free brewed iced tea or coffee in the summer months.
  2. Add more servings of fruits and vegetables. Buy more seasonal fruits and vegetables and add them to your meals. Make salads, soups, sandwiches, side dishes whatever you have to do to increase the amount in your diet. There are many great recipes for fruits and vegetables to try.
  3. Choose low calorie snacks. When snacking eat popcorn, nuts, low fat yogurt, fruit or rice cakes. Leave the ice cream, cake and cookies in the store.
  4. Eat a good breakfast. Start the day right by eating breakfast. Eat an egg, whole wheat bread, whole grain cereals and drink  juice, tea or coffee. This will keep you from getting hungry and snacking. It is a good way to start the day like putting fuel in the car. A proper breakfast gives your body energy to do tasks during the day.
  5. Eat lean protein. Eat healthy protein like beans, nuts, lean meats and fish without the fat. Protein gives the body the fuel.
  6. Exercise regularly. Try to get at least 30 minutes of regular exercise daily. This means walking, swimming, running or biking. Exercise is an important part of a healthy diet. It burns fats and keeps bones and muscle healthy.
  7. Eat several small meals during the day. Eating several small meals during the day instead of three big meals. You will eat less and choose healthier foods. Your energy level will remain more level if you eat lean protein, whole grains and plenty of fresh  fruits and vegetables.
  8. Lift weights. Lifting weights produces muscle and this is an indicator that you are losing weight. Learn how to do this properly if you plan to do it at home. Lift small weights a few times a week.
  9. Reduce stress. Stress causes people to eat more and gain weight. Reduce stress by exercise and finding ways to solve problems at home and work.
  10. Sleep. Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night. Go to bed earlier and get up earlier maintain a regular schedule.
