10 Easy Camping Meals
These 10 easy camping meals are not difficult to prepare and are easy to clean up afterwards.
- Beef or Chicken Kabobs. Ingredients: roast, stew meat or chicken, potato, onion, tomato, mushrooms and kabob sticks. Per person, have a quarter of a pound of meat, a half a potato, half an onion, a half a tomato and four mushrooms. Cube meat to one inch and slice veggies thin. Spear the food alternating the meat, potato, onion, tomato and mushroom. Dip the entire food sticks into cooking oil. Live coals or a hot grill are best suited to cook the kabobs. They're an easy campsite meal.
- Foil Hamburger Meal. Ingredients: hamburger, potato, onion, carrot, cauliflower, mushroom and celery. Put a hamburger patty, quartered potatoes, a wedge of onion, carrots, celery, salt and pepper to taste. Let the guests choose their own veggies. Wrap in heavy-duty foil and place on live coals or a hot grill. Cook for fifteen minutes and then flip.
- Fish. Ingredients: fish fillets, oil, one bag potato chips and beer. Soak fish in beer. Crush potato chips. Coat the beer soaked fish with chips. Deep fry in very hot oil until the fish becomes a golden color, about fifteen minutes.
- Foil Wrapped Steamed Vegetables and Fish. Ingredients: fresh fish, one small onion, two potatoes, two carrots, zucchini or squash, salt and pepper and Italian salad dressing. Gut and scale fish, but otherwise leave it whole. Wrap fish, vegetables and spices in heavy-duty foil. Place salad dressing on fish and vegetables. Close the foil tightly. Place on a medium heat grill or near coals of campfire. Cook gently until potatoes and carrots cook well. Periodically move it around to avoid burning. Dressing steams the vegetables. Cook 25 minutes.
- Foil Wrapped Hot Dogs. Ingredients: eight hot dogs, eight hot dog buns, one onion, diced and one bag shredded cheddar cheese. Put a hot dog in each bun. Top with shredded cheese and diced onions. Wrap in foil and place over fire for twenty minutes.
- Hobo Stew: An Easy to Make Camping Meal. Ingredients: hamburger or stew meat, vegetables (corn, green beans, carrots, onions, bell peppers), garlic, butter, salt and pepper. Spray the foil with cooking spray. Fold foil into a pocket to hold ingredients. Add meat first, then vegetables. Top with seasonings and butter. Close foil on all sides. Put packet into the coals. Check every ten minutes.
- Chili One Pot Easy Camping Meal. Ingredients: canned pinto or kidney beans, one and a half pounds hamburger, one pound hot sausage, one green pepper, one large onion, hot banana peppers, powdered garlic to taste, Lawrey's seasoning salt, two packs chili seasoning (hot, mild or regular) and water. In a Dutch oven, brown sausage and hamburger, then add the other ingredients. Allow to simmer for about 30 minutes. Serves eight.
- Beanie Wienies Makes an Easy Camping Meal. Ingredients: one large can pork and beans, one package hot dogs, one tablespoon mustard, one tablespoon ketchup, one tablespoon brown sugar, and half medium onion. Pour beans in a Dutch oven. Slice hot dogs into 1/4-inch pieces and dice onions, then add to beans. Add mustard, ketchup and brown sugar. Cook 30 minutes. Serves eight.
- Eggs in a Hat. Ingredients: four slices of your favorite bread, four eggs, four slices of ham or Canadian bacon, and four slices of cheese. Warm greased skillet over low heat. Use a drinking glass or cookie cutter to cut out a hole in the center of the bread. Lightly toast bread on both sides. Crack an egg into the hole and cook until the egg white is almost solid. Flip over and put a slice of cheese and a slice of ham on egg. It is ready when cheese melts.
- Barbecued Drumsticks. Ingredients: six chicken drumsticks and barbecue sauce. Spray rack with nonstick cooking spray. Brush drumsticks with sauce and arrange on the grill, five inches from heat. Baste frequently. Option: Baste drumsticks and wrap in foil for 30 minutes.
When buying easy camping meal ingredients, include all other items mentioned such as Dutch oven, iron skillet, heavy-duty foil, cooking utensils, cookie cutter and kabob sticks.
