Want to know 10 martial arts training tips. Martial arts is a popular way to stay in shape and teach people off all ages respect for themselves and others.  Martial arts are also a great way to get in shape without doing the same thing over and over again.

  1. Join a Dojo. The first thing to do is join a dojo or a class at your gym. You can pay for private lessons but they will be very expensive. Dojo’s and gym’s also help by giving you the opportunity to train and grow with others at and above your level.
  2. Try Different Styles. Don’t be afraid to try a few different styles before you settle on one to focus on. It takes years to master a single martial arts style, don’t waste all that time on a style that you don’t like. It will be a waste of your time and money.
  3. Make a Schedule. Figure out a schedule that allows you to keep on your workouts and won’t let you slack off, but also won’t over work your body. You should have a couple days of hard training and a couple of days of light training and one day of complete rest.
  4. Eat Healthy and Get Sleep. Make sure that your training doesn’t just end when you leave the gym or dojo. Martial arts is a way life in some ways, to keep up with the workouts you need to eat healthy and get a good amount of sleep outside of your training.
  5. Gear. Make sure you have the right gear for your workout. Some martial arts styles include weapons and for your own safety you need to insure those you use in training are good quality. Your instructor should be able to recommend a brand or in a class they might be supplied for all the students.
  6. Practice. Training doesn’t end after class. You can practice katas at home as long as you are careful and you shouldn’t stop running or weight lifting just because you’ve started martial arts. Martial arts isn’t just kicks and punches and throws, you need to keep up other exercises to keep your body going.
  7. Technique. Master the techniques before you concentrate on becoming faster and stronger. Martial arts is more about doing things right then doing them better then someone else. Mastering the technique also helps to lesson the chance of injury.
  8. Be Dedicated. It takes years to truly master a single martial arts style, you can’t just come in one week and not come in the next. It has to be something you will stick with no matter how you are feeling.
  9. Compete. Competition isn’t necessary to being fit and healthy but it is something that does help with your training. Competition lets not only your instruction, but you yourself, judge how far you have come. It can also help you understand what you need to work on.
  10. Have Fun. Martial arts requires dedication and motivation and it helps if you are having fun as well. This is why it is important that you choose a style you want to learn. Having fun also makes it easier for you to be dedicated and to make the effort to practice on your own.
