The recession has caused job cuts in lots of sectors but there are more than 10 medical career options that are recession proof. People always get sick or have ailments that need specialist attention so why not cash in on these people and get one of the best medical jobs.

  1. General Practitioner. If you are a people person and do not mind meeting people of all ages every day of the week then this may be the job for you. The downside to being a GP is that the people you meet are all sick in some way and may be contagious but at least it isn't be a boring medical career option.
  2. Dentist. Dentists get paid more than many doctors and only have to know how to fix one small area of the body. Being a dentist is a great way to get revenge on enemies with bad teeth because you get to drill them.
  3. Brain Surgeon. If your main aim is to make money then there are few better medical career options than becoming a brain surgeon. It is a gruesome job drilling open peoples skulls and examining the spaghetti stuff inside but at least it pays.
  4. Phlebotomy Technician. It sounds like a really complicated job but it just means you draw blood from people and not by biting their neck. These guys are the medical people with the scary needles that they always falsely claim won't hurt but at least it is a safe career option.
  5. Massage Therapist. Half the people in an average neighborhood seem to think they can give great massages but it is a specialist field. With stress levels running high during the recession massage therapists have one of the safest medical careers.
  6. Medical Billing Specialist. These are the people who tell the credit bureau you did not pay your co-pay on time. Where money is involved there will always be jobs so medical billing specialists are going to be around for a long time.
  7. EKG Technician. If you want to know what makes someone tick then become an EKG technician. This job involves all kinds of sophisticated equipment and video screens so it's a good career option for geeks.
  8. Hospital Nurse. On Halloween you get the impression that all nurses are hot blondes wearing fish net stockings but the real world is different. Many nurses are men and whatever their gender they are the hard working back bone of the hospitals in this country.
  9. Anesthesiologist. If you are the kind of person who tells boring stories that put people to sleep then this is the medical career for you. This job requires skill because too much or too little can cause a patient to wake up mid-operation or not at all.
  10. Insurance Coding Specialist. If you are good at finding creative ways to get money from the unsuspecting public then working as an insurance biller might be for you. With insurance companies raking in the cash this is one medical career option that is not going to disappear any time soon.
