10 Motocross Riding Tips
Follow these ten motocross riding tips to get the most out of your biking experience. Practice each one until you are comfortable with the techniques. The motocross tips in this article are intended to help you ride safer and better.
- Proper seating is a very important motocross riding tip. On a dirt bike, the seat is indented where the gas tank is located. You need to always make sure that you are leaning forward when motocross riding.
- Position yourself properly when riding. Your knees should be bent slightly while standing on the pegs, and both elbows need to be out and up.
- The next motocross riding tip is to lead with your head. When moving forward while riding on the motocross track, remember to lead with your head. It should be raised up and over the bars of the bike.
- Focus and look ahead of you. Scan the obstacles of the motocross track before you get to them. Then, plan your lines in advance.
- Don't pull the clutch when down shifting. When moving into corners, if you do not pull the clutch you will have extra stopping power.
- Practice using the levers and grips when riding. The best way to do this is to use one or two fingers on the clutch and preferably only one finger on the front brake lever.
- Keep the ball of your foot on the foot peg until you need to use the brake. Practice moving your feet from the brake or shifter to the foot peg over and over again until it is easy to do.
- Drag the rear brake in order to stop the rear wheel from kicking up too high. When you are motocross riding and feel as though the rear wheel is getting ready to kick high, drag the rear brake to minimize the kicking effect.
- Ride a terrain based on your ability. Make sure you feel certain that the obstacles on the motocross riding terrain are not too difficult for you. Work your way up to more advanced ones with practice.
- To avoid rolling your ATV or dirt bike, ride straight up and down hills. Do not climb a hill at an angle.
