If you are looking for 10 table tennis coaching tips for beginners and advanced players, then look no further. Table tennis is a sport that requires accuracy and dedication, combined with raw talent. Once you begin to master some of these skills, you will be on your way to becoming a really good player.

  1. Mix up serves of different spin and lengths. An advanced serve should include deep, short, medium long, pure speed, pure spin, down the line shots. It also tends to be very effective when serving to the elbow.
  2. Attack whenever you can, especially on a long serve. Usually the player to open the offense has proven to win set, point and match.
  3. Always keep your eyes on the other player’s racket when receiving a serve. Keep an eye on how high the ball is tossed and then watch the racket. By only keeping your eye on the ball the server will try and confuse you.
  4. When you serve you need to get a ball in for a winner, so you need to develop a third ball attack, such as a short backspin serve followed with a long plush and a powerful loop.
  5. When receiving, mix up your returns. Mixing up your pushes, drives, loops and chops allows for good variation as well as startles your opponent as many players often tend to push, which gives the upper hand to the opponent.
  6. Professional equipment is important and one should start off with a medium fast blade, as this type will allow you optimum control and rely more on technique which will help you get the ball over the net.
  7. Forehands are ideal when you are on the table and you side to side footwork also needs to be developed. At the same time you need to work on your backhand so the receiver won’t know what hit them when you hit that down the line backhand blast.
  8. Control your temper if you have missed some shots or are losing a match. Find a solution to overcome the problem. You should never give up, think things over before you serve and take advantage of the shot.
  9. Find ways to come up with new serving techniques such as a high heavy backspin that bounces near the net.
  10. Confidence equals success. Always be positive and create a good atmosphere and make the game fun.

Remember when playing table tennis, do not to get over technical. Focus more on lower or higher moves as well as harder and softer moves. This will prove to be far more effective and compels one to use more control over power.
