Sample these 5 acoustic guitar Christmas songs if you're looking for a little softer holiday feel than the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. These songs make the perfect background music for a holiday party or get-together. As an added benefit, these acoustic guitar Christmas songs may all be mellow enough to calm the paper-shredding frenzy on Christmas morning.

  1. "What Child Is This?" by Santa's Elf Band. Santa's Elf Band has put out an impressive number of eclectic Christmas-themed albums like "Christmas Violin Songs" and "Island Christmas Songs," but their acoustic guitar rendition of "What Child Is This?" is definitely worth a listen.
  2. "Carol of the Bells" by The California Guitar Trio. Much like how the California Guitar Trio is not actually from California, the California Guitar Trio actually manages to pull off "Carol of the Bells" without any bells.
  3. "Silent Night" by Greg Porée. Greg Porée offers a beautiful acoustic version of this classic holiday hymn.
  4. "We Three Kings" by Adam Rafferty. This rambling version of "We Three Kings" is reminiscent of Johnny Cash. This is definitely not your traditional Christmas song. Rafferty's accompanying Christmas album, "A Christmas Guitar Celebration" offers a wealth of variety of classic Christmas favorites for acoustic guitar fans.
  5. "God Rest You Merry Gentlemen" by Rodrigo Rodriguez. Rodrigo Rodriguez makes up for having one of the most redundant names of all time with this original acoustic guitar version of the hymn "God Rest You Merry Gentlemen." Be sure to check out Rodriguez's version of "Carol of the Bells," too.
