Creating the entire Thanksgiving event is a long process, so having 5 appetizers for Thanksgiving dinner can help keep everyone going until dinner. Thanksgiving appetizers should be light so that room is left for the big meal.

  1. Fresh berries with whipped cream. Berries are an excellent choice as an appetizer for Thanksgiving dinner as they are a sweet addition for those who have trouble waiting for dessert but are light enough that you will still want the turkey as it goes by. Fill a small goblet with berries such as raspberries and blueberries and top with a small dollop of whipped cream and serve with a spoon.
  2. Minophyllo shells. Mini phyllo shells give many options for appetizers for Thanksgiving dinner. Give a taste of the Thanksgiving dinner by filling mini phyllo shells. Make fillings such as turkey salad, cream cheese and berries, mashed potatoes, green onions, and bacon, or fill the shells with a bit of the dressing. This will get everyone prepped and ready for the big meal to come.
  3. Fruit and cheese plate. Get out your best plates and set them up with sliced oranges, apples, kiwi, and grapes. Cube cheese next to the fruit for a simple, yet elegant Thanksgiving dinner appetizer.
  4. Vegetable tray. A vegetable tray is an easy appetizer to make in the middle of the Thanksgiving dinner hoopla. Slice up carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and peppers and place on a nice serving platter. Fill a bowl with Ranch or your favorite dressing or vegetable dip and sit it in the middle of the cut up vegetables.
  5. Mini steak sandwiches. If the appetizers will be served several hours before the meal you may want to create a heartier appetizer for Thanksgiving dinner. Slice a baguette into half inch slices. Spread on a mixture of mustard and mayonnaise made with two parts mayonnaise and one part mustard. Top the mustard and mayonnaise mixture with a small piece of grilled flank steak and a sprinkle of dried rosemary.
