Those looking for the 5 best gaming graphics cards are only satisfied by top notch performance.  These cards bring that and then some.  High graphics performance and fast frame rates are the name of the game when it comes to these graphics cards.  Here are five of the best gaming graphics cards on the market today.

  1. nVidia GeForce GTX 480.  The GTX 480 is currently the fastest graphics card on the market with a 700Mhz core clock and 1.5GB of GDDR5.  It’s more than capable of handling even the most demanding of games.
  2. ATI Radeon HD 5870.  This gaming graphics card is ATI’s top of the line model, with DirectX 11 capability, 1GB of GDDR5 and a 850Mhz core clock speed.  It has more than enough single-GPU performance, and if you need any extra, you can always combine two of these cards in CrossFire mode.
  3. ATI Radeon HD 5850.  The HD 5850 is a bit slower than it’s big brother HD 5870, but it still holds its own when it comes to performance.  It requires less power than the HD 5870 and it’s shorter in length, meaning it can fit into a wider variety of cases.
  4. ATI Radeon HD 5970.  This dual GPU video card is quite a beast—after all, it is the equivalent of running two HD 5870s in CrossFire mode.  While it has the power to provide excellent graphics performance on even the largest screen resolutions, it does come with a price: high power consumption and at $689.99, an even higher price tag.  The card itself is also quite long, requiring a large case to hold it.
  5. nVidia GeForce GTX 465.  This gaming graphics card is the most recent of the 400 series arrivals and carries 1GB of GDDR5 memory.  This card compares well to the HD 5850 and at under $300, it is reasonably priced.
