5 Best Hernia Treatments

Hernia can lead to severe health complications, so it is important to learn about the 5 best hernia treatments to prevent further problems. Hernia refers to the condition where a body cavity bulges out abnormally. This condition usually occurs in the intestine and abdomen.

  1. Herniorrhaphy. This is a rather intrusive, but also one of the bets hernia treatments where a surgeon will make an incision at the groin area and pushes the bulging intestine back into the abdomen. The surgeon will then sew the weakened muscles so they can strengthen. It will take around six weeks for the patient to fully recover from this medical procedure.
  2. Hernioplasty. This procedure is also one of the best hernia treatments as it will ease discomfort on the patient. This procedure involves covering the hernia and potential openings with a mesh. The surgeon will then secure the mesh using sutures or clips. Hernioplasty is usually conducted through laparoscopic repair, which means that the surgeon will induce several small incisions rather than a large one. The disadvantage of laparoscopic repair is that the patient may have to undergo recurring surgeries. This procedure is also not suitable for patients with a large hernia.
  3. Home care. Although all hernias should be corrected by medical procedures, the patient can prevent the hernia from worsening using home care. Avoid activities such as lifting, coughing, and straining. These activities will all increase intra-abdominal pressure, which will contribute to the growth of the hernia. This is considered one of the best hernia treatments because the patient can practice them at home.
  4. Non-surgical treatment. If the hernia is not serious, a doctor may try pushing the hernia back to the intestine while the patient lies on his back. This is one of the best hernia treatments as it does not involve any surgical risk. However, it is not always applicable.
  5. Truss. Wearing a truss will not cure the hernia. It will, however, put pressure on the hernia and prevent it from worsening. If the patient is physically unsuitable for surgeries, he may have to wear a truss permanently. Thus, truss becomes one of the best hernia treatments.
