5 Best Holiday Recipes

With the holidays around the corner, it's time to plan your menu with these 5 best holiday recipes. Celebrate the holidays this season with family and friends and some of the best holiday recipes.   

1. Spinach Dip

Appetizers are the food that everyone will snack on before the meal. Spinach artichoke dip is an easy recipe and sure to please the crowd. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 (10 oz.) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 (8 oz.) container sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 (.4 oz.) packet dry vegetable soup mix
  1. In a medium mixing bowl combine spinach, sour cream, mayonnaise and vegetable soup mix. Mix well.
  2. Refrigerate it for four hours. Stir before serving.

2. Glazed Ham

Spiral ham is a popular choice for holiday gatherings. This holiday recipe is a great addition to your holiday menu. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 (12 pound) bone-in ham
  • 1/2 cup whole cloves
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 (20 oz.) can pineapple rings in heavy syrup
  • 1 (4 oz.) jar chopped maraschino cherries
  • 1 (12 fluid oz.) can or bottle lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Place ham in a roasting pan. Score the rind of the ham with a diamond pattern. Press a clove into the center of each diamond.
  3. Drain the juice from the pineapple rings into a medium bowl, and stir in the brown sugar and lemon-lime soda. Coat the ham with this mixture.
  4. Arrange the pineapple rings over the outside of the ham. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple ring, and secure with a toothpick.
  5. Bake uncovered for four to five hours, basting frequently with the juices, until the internal temperature of the ham is 160 degrees. Be sure the meat thermometer is not touching the bone. Remove toothpicks before serving.

3. Green Bean Casserole

Side dishes complement the entree. This holiday recipe goes great with glazed ham or just about any entree. Green Bean Casserole is another holiday staple that is easy to make. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 (10.75 oz.) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 (9 oz.) packages frozen green beans
  • 1 1/3 cups French-fried onions
  • ground black pepper to taste
  1. In a 1-1/2 quart casserole mix soup, milk, and pepper. Stir in beans and 2/3 cup french fried onions.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until heated through, stir. Top with remaining 2/3 cup of french fried onions.
  3. Bake 5 minutes more or until the onions are golden.

4. Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Do not forget the holiday recipe for mashed potatoes. Mashed Potatoes are a holiday comfort food. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 (14 oz.) cans Swanson® Seasoned Chicken Broth with Roasted Garlic
  • 5 large potatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Ground black pepper
  1. Place broth and potatoes in saucepan. Heat to a boil. Cover and cook over medium heat ten minutes or until tender. Drain, reserving broth.
  2. Mash potatoes with 1 1/4 cups broth and black pepper. Add additional broth, if needed, until desired consistency.

5. Apple Pie

What is planning a holiday dinner without a dessert recipe? Apple pie is a dessert that is not only loved by most, it's very easy to make. This holiday recipe is a classic dessert. 

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tbs. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp.n ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 7 cups thinly sliced pared apples
  • 1 tbs.n lemon juice
  • 1 Pastry for double-crust pie (9 inches)
  • 1 tbs. butter or margarine
  • 1 egg white
  • Additional sugar
  1. In a small bowl, combine sugar, flour and spices; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. A
  3. dd sugar mixture; toss well to coat.
  4. Line a 9-in. pie pan with half the pastry.
  5. Place apple filling into crust; dot with butter.
  6. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie.
  7. Cut a few slits in top. Beat egg white until foamy; brush over pastry. Sprinkle sugar on top.
  8. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes. Increase temperature to 400 degrees and bake ten to fifteen minutes more or until golden.
