5 Best Steven Spielberg Oscar Movies

The 5 Best Steven Spielberg Oscar Movies to be considered are the five best Steven Spielberg movies that have been nominated. The reason being is simple: Steven Spielberg has only won the Oscar twice, not to sound disparaging in the least. Because of the fact that most people primarily know Steven Spielberg as a director, although his producing credits outweigh his directing credits, this article is to discuss films he was nominated for Best Director. The list begins with the following:

  1. "Schindler's List." A heart wrenching work to say the least, it was in this black and white film, save for the little girl in the red dress skipping through the ghetto, that moviegoers were given an accurate account of the happenings of the Holocaust. A stellar performance by Liam Neeson did not hurt the film either.
  2. "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." A film about extra-terrestrials is a staple film of Steven Spielberg. This science fiction film about aliens could be argued to have retained Steven Spielberg's place on the filmmaking map after the success of "Jaws" just a couple years earlier.
  3. "ET." A very imaginative film and set a standard of filmmaking for future films about aliens, and future films about anything for that matter. Moviegoers have grown to love the character ET.
  4. "Raiders of the Lost Ark." It was the first in the Indiana Jones Trilogy, and a classic film that should be a must for anybody, film lover or not. The team effort by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas cannot be matched. While the rest of the trilogy may fault flat in comparison, after watching "Raiders of the Last Ark" it's apparent to see why any film would come up short in comparison.
  5. "Saving Private Ryan." The famous beach scene of the storming of Normandy is enough incentive to watch this film. Steven Spielberg allows the camera to realistically show the battle as if it were happening not but two feet away. It's an honest, and at times just gory enough, portrayal of World War II. In addition, the cast is nothing to sneeze at.

And there are the top five best Steven Spielberg Oscar movies, in no particular order. Each film has it's own style and each showcase a master filmmaker at work. Though Steven Spielberg is never always on, with these five he was cannot miss throughout the entire length of each movie.
