With teams representing all the continents, ethnicities, soccer styles, cultures and the idea of national pride, only one team is victorious and goes down in soccer history as legends and heroes for years to come. For the football neutralist, this is also a great time to watch for spectacular goals from either free-kicks, corners, long distances, individual brilliants and team efforts.

  1. Tomas Rosicky, USA vs Czech Republic. The Czech Republic entered the tournament, firing on all cylinders and defeating the United States by three goals to none. Tomas Rosicky scored two of the three goals, the most memorable goal being a 35 yard curler, which left fans amazed and mystified.

  2. Maxi Rodriguez, Argentina vs Mexico. In an extra time thriller in the round of 16, facing the possibilities of a penalty shootout, Maxi Rodriguez used his chest to control a cross from his teammate Juan Pablo Sorin and launched an incredible volley which found the back of the Mexican goal, sending Argentina to the quarter finals and Mexico crashing out of the 2006 World Cup.

  3. Fernando Torres, Spain vs Ukraine. Fernando Torres, nicked named "El Niño", entered the 2006 World Cup as the leading goal scorer for Spain, with 11 goals in their qualification campaign. Torres finished the World Cup with three goals tied with fellow teammate David Villa, but stole the show with an amazing volley to finish Spain 4 goals victory against Ukraine in the group stage.

  4. Esteban Cambiasso, Argentina vs Serbia and Montenegro. The build-up to the goal will forever be used when teaching children soccer fundamentals and teamwork. Argentina stringed up to 24 passes, commanding ball possession from all corners of the field, displaying a soccer clinic with an excellent end product being Esteban Cambiasso’s goal.

David Beckham, England vs Ecuador.  "Bend like Beckham" is a famous expression used to compliment the excellent free-kick skills of David Beckham’s ability to curve his shot around the opposing teams defense during a free-kick to score. David Beckham ended his 11 game goal drought for England with a 30 yard free-kick in the 60th minute, sending the "3 Lions" to the Quarter finals of the 2006 World Cup.
