- Always be sure to wash your car first. This is usually the most skipped step. When removing a scratch, you need to remove the layer of paint or shine with the defect in it. You can't do that if your car isn't clean to begin with. To make sure that you working directly with the scratch, always wash the car.
- Dry the car. If your car isn't dry after you cleaned it, water, soap, and solvents can permanently damage the layers around the scratch if not completely dry. Use a fine cloth or towel to ensure that the scratch is dried.
