5 Cell Phone Battery Tips
Learn about 5 cell phone battery tips to help extend the battery's life. Short battery life is a common, annoying problem that affects most cell phone users at some point. If it seems like your battery dies often--regardless of how much you charge it--follow these tips to increase the charge, both short term and long.
- Fully charge your new battery. Don't use it until you've charged the cell phone battery to its maximum capacity. This may take a few hours to overnight, depending on the type. See the cell phone instruction manual for the optimal charging time.
- Turn down the screen brightness. Phones tend to come from the factory with the brightest screen settings. Lower the brightness to a medium setting, saving battery life in the process.
- Shut off any applications or features you don't need at the moment. Your cell phone doesn't need constant internet access or GPS while you're trying to save battery life. These features zap power from the battery in no time.
- Turn off the backlight when you don't need it. The backlight makes it easier to see in dark conditions, but it's not always necessary. Your best bet is to have it shut off automatically after a few seconds.
- Keep your cell phone battery at room temperature when possible. Batteries die faster when exposed to heat, so its best not to keep your phone in a hot place. If you don't plan on using your phone for an extended period of time, take out the cell phone battery and store it in the fridge.
