5 Christmas Side Dish Recipes

Try these five Christmas side dish recipes for a traditional Christmas dinner. The turkey might be the star, but having your favorite sides dish makes the meal your own. Try one of these Christmas side dish recipes this holiday season.

Green beans almondine

To make green beans almondine you will need:

  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 2 tablespoons slivered almonds
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  1. Blanch the green beans in boiling water until crisp tender. Remove and put into a serving dish.
  2. Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the almonds and cook until the butter starts to turn golden.
  3. Pour the almonds and butter over the green beans. Season with salt and pepper.

 

Cabbage with bacon      

To make cabbage with bacon as a side dish, you will need:

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1/2 pound of bacon, sliced
  • Salt and pepper
  1. Cook the bacon is a skillet until browned and crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan and drain on paper towels.
  2. Slice the cabbage. Add it to the skillet and cook until tender. Add the bacon to the cabbage. Season with salt and pepper.

 

Sweet potato casserole

To make sweet potato casserole as a Christmas side dish, you will need:

  • 3 cups mashed sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 flour
  • 1 cup nuts
  1. Mix together the sweet potatoes, milk, eggs, butter, white sugar, salt and vanilla. Put the mixture into a baking dish.
  2. Mix together the brown sugar, butter, flour and nuts. Add topping to the top of the sweet potatoes.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake for fifteen to twenty minutes, until the topping is golden brown. Serve as a side dish or eat at the end of the meal as a dessert.

Creamed corn

To make creamed corn as a Christmas side dish you will need:

  • 20 ounces frozen corn kernels, thawed
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  1. Mix together corn, cream, salt, pepper, and butter in a pan over medium heat. Mix the flour into the milk until smooth. Add to the corn.
  2. Stir until thickened and the corn is heated through. Take off of the heat and mix in the cheese.

 

Chive mashed potatoes

To make chived mashed potatoes you will need:

  • 3 pounds potatoes
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 8 ounce package cream cheese, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  1. Peel and cube potatoes. Place potatoes in a pan. Put in enough water to cover the potatoes.
  2. Boil until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife. Drain the potatoes.
  3. Add the butter to the potatoes and mash them. Add the milk and cream cheese.
  4. Mix until melted. Add the chives and mix together. Sprinkle some chives on top as a garnish. Serve as a side dish to the turkey or ham.
