5 Dessert Recipes For Thanksgiving

Looking for five dessert recipes for Thanksgiving? Making the same pumpkin, apple and mince pies every year for Thanksgiving can get a little dull. These dessert recipes use traditional Thanksgiving flavors like pumpkin, cranberries and pecans in interesting new desserts.

 

Cranberry duff

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups cranberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/3 cup chopped, toasted pecans
  • 1/3 + 1/2 cup sugar
  • six tablespoons softened unsalted butter
  • one egg
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  1. Grease an eight-inch square baking dish. Spread cranberries and pecans on the bottom, then sprinkle with 1/3 cup sugar.
  2. Combine all other ingredients into a smooth batter. Pour gently over cranberry mixture.
  3. Bake at 325 for 45 minutes. Cool ten minutes before inverting pan.

 

Apple custard tart

Ingredients:

  • unbaked pie shell
  • one 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 1/4 cup + 1/3 cup apple juice concentrate, thawed
  • one egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon + one teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 
  • two Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • one tablespoon butter
  1. Roll out pie crust to thirteen-inches in diameter. Place in an eleven-inch tart pan, trim, and bake at 375 for fifteen minutes.
  2. Beat milk, sour cream, egg, 1/4 cup juice, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and vanilla. Bake in pie crust for 25 minutes, then refrigerate for one hour.
  3. Fry apples in butter and place on top of tart. Top with 1/3 cup apple juice concentrate simmered with one teaspoon cinnamon until thick.

 

Oatmeal pecan pie

Ingredients:

  • 11-inch prepared pie crust
  • one cup each brown sugar and light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 2/3 cup oats
  • two eggs
  • two tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  1. Place pie crust in a nine-inch pie pan.
  2. Combine all other ingredients and pour into pie shell.
  3. Bake at 325 for 50 minutes or until set.

 

Pumpkin cheesecake

Ingredients:

  • prepared nine-inch graham cracker crust
  • 1 1/2 pounds cream cheese
  • one cup pumpkin puree
  • four eggs
  • three tablespoons flour
  • one cup sugar
  • one teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice
  • one cup white chocolate chips
  1. Beat all ingredients except crust and white chocolate, then stir in white chocolate.
  2. Pour into pie shell and bake at 300 for one hour.
  3. Turn oven off and leave cheesecake inside for another 30 minutes. Refrigerate before serving.

 

Pumpkin bread

Ingredients:

  • two cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • one teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • two teaspoons cinnamon
  • three eggs
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • one teaspoon vanilla extract
  • three cups shredded pumpkin
  • one cup toasted pumpkin seeds
  1. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.
  2. Beat eggs, oil, sugar and vanilla in another bowl, then stir in dry ingredients and fold in pumpkin and pumpkin seeds.
  3. Pour into a loaf pan and bake at 325 for 30 minutes.
