5 Easy Cooking Recipes For Kids

Here are 5 easy cooking recipes for kids. Many kids today are picky eaters, or they are unwilling to try new things. One way to cure both of these problems is to have kids help with the actual cooking. So here are some great and easy recipes for kids. Note: all recipes serve four.

1. Baked Fried Chicken 

Ingredients you will need

  • Skinless chicken with the bone in (any part of the chicken will do) (6 pieces)
  • Bread crumbs (2 cups)
  • Yellow Cornmeal (2 tablespoons)
  • Egg Whites (from 2 eggs)
  • Cayenne Pepper (1 teaspoon)
  • Cooking Spray
  • Grated Cheese Parmesan or Romano (1 cup)
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees
  2.  Lay a piece of wax paper down. Pour breadcrumbs, cornmeal, cayenne pepper, and grated cheese in a pile and mix together. 
  3.  Separate two eggs and keep only the egg whites.
  4. Coat each piece of chicken with egg then roll in breading mixture. (Make sure to wash hands when you are done) 
  5. Place chicken on a pan, spray with cooking spray and cook for 35 minutes.

This is a healthy alternative to fried chicken and it is such an easy recipe to make. The kids will love it.

2. Roasted Broccoli

Ingredients you will need:

  • 4-5 heads of broccoli (fresh)
  • Mrs. Dash garlic and herb (enough to coat the entire pan of broccoli)
  • Fresh lemon
  • Extra virgin olive oil (about 1/2 cup)
  • Soy Sauce (just to coat)
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. 
  2. Remove the stem of the broccoli and cut or pull it apart to make small florets. Place on a shallow baking pan. 
  3. Drizzle the olive oil on the broccoli; squeeze the lemon over it; sprinkle Mrs Dash to coat the broccoli as well as some soy sauce. 
  4. Place in the oven for 5 minutes and enjoy!

Kids can make this recipe all by themselves. It is easy, healthy, and believe it or not, kids will begin to love broccoli.

3. Mandarin Orange and Pecan Salad

 Ingredients you will need:

  • 1 pack of fresh salad mix (spring greens)
  • Mandarin oranges (1 cup)
  • Feta Cheese (1 cup)
  • Pecans (1 cup)
  • Sliced Tomatoes (2 )
  • Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing (As much as you need to coat the salad) 
  • Sliced Red Onion (1) (optional)
  1. In a large salad bowl, combine salad mix, cheese, oranges, pecans, tomatoes, and onions. Mix together.
  2. Drizzle dressing over the salad and mix again.

Not all kid like salad; this recipe for kids will be fun, easy, and will how them how great a salad can taste. Tip: Use flavored pecans instead of plain to jazz it up!\

4. Pizza Bagels

Ingredients you will need:

  • 4 sliced bagels Red sauce (1 cup- whatever brand you like)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese (2 cups)
  • Diced Vegetables (any variety- peppers, onions etc)
  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Place bagels on a baking pan and coat with sauce. 
  2. Sprinkle cheese over the bagels and add veggies.
  3. Cook for 10 minutes (or until cheese is melted and slightly browned.

All kids love pizza, but this recipe they can make themselves. It is also a way to get kids to eat more vegetables. 

5. Macaroni and Cheese with Hot Dogs

Ingredients you will need:

  • 1 box macaroni and cheese mix
  • 5 hot dogs (sliced)
  1. Cook the macaroni and cheese as directed on the box
  2. In a separate frying pan, fry up the small slices of hot dog. 
  3. When browned, pour the hot dog slices into the macaroni and cheese and stir. Serve immediately!

This great recipe combines two kids classics. It's easy, fun, and one a kid could handle cooking.
