5 Easy Traditional Easter Recipes

The five easy traditional Easter recipes are easy and yet very flavorful. The recipes are sure to please your friends and family when they sit down to a traditional Easter meal.

To make Easter mashed sweet potatoes you will need:

  • 4 sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • cinnamon (if desired)
  1. Boil, drain and mash sweet potatoes. Moisten with hot milk and beat until smooth.
  2. Add butter to taste. If desired, add cinnamon.

To make traditional Easter leg of lamb with you will need:

  • 5 pounds whole leg of lamb
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon-style mustard
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 5 cloves garlic, whole 
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  1. Randomly cut five slits in the roast. Insert one garlic clove in each slit.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the honey, mustard, rosemary, ground black pepper, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, and garlic. Mix well and apply to the lamb.
  3. Cover,  Marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  5. Add water to roasting pan. Place lamb on a rack in a roasting pan and salt.
  6. Bake at 450 degrees for twenty minute, Reduce heat to 350 degrees for 55 to 60 more minutes for medium rare.
  7. Make a foil tent if the lamb is getting too brown .
  8. Let the roast rest before carving.

To make hard-boiled eggs you will need:

  • 12 eggs
  • Water
  1. Place eggs in a saucepan. Cover with water.
  2. Cover and turn stove to high. Boil. Turn off heat. Remove from burner.
  3. Let the saucepan sit covered for fifteen minutes.
  4. Fill a bowl with cold water. Move the eggs from the saucepan to the cold water.
  5. Add cold water as needed  to get the eggs cool.
  6. Place in refrigerator.

This is a very easy way to make the traditional Easter hard-boiled eggs for decorating or for deviled eggs.

To make Easter ambrosia salad you will need:

  • 1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 (8 ounce) frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup red apples, cut up with skins on
  • 2 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup milk
  1. In a large bowl, combine the fruit, whipped topping, coconut, marshmallows and milk.
  2. Mix together well and chill one hour.

This recipe is another traditional Easter recipe. To make chocolate and coconut Easter eggs you will need:

  • 2 pounds confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 pound margarine, softened
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 12 ounces peanut butter
  • 1 pound flaked coconut
  • 4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, margarine, cream cheese and vanilla extract.
  2. Divide the batter in half and place each half of the batter in a bowl.
  3. Stir peanut butter into one of the bowls and coconut into the second.
  4. Using your hands, mold the dough into egg-shapes and place on cookie sheets. Place the eggs in the freezer until frozen.
  5. Once the eggs have frozen, melt chocolate and shortening in a double boiler. Stir occasionally until smooth. Cover eggs with chocolate.
  6. Place on wax paper lined cookie sheets and return to the freezer.
  7. Hardened chocolate eggs can be kept in the refrigerator.
